Market Chatter: Ford in Talks to Re-Enter Indian Market by Manufacturing EVs at Tamil Nadu Plant
Oct 2, 2024 10:03 PM

07:03 AM EDT, 10/01/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Ford Motor ( F ) is in talks to re-enter the Indian market by manufacturing electric vehicles at its southern India plant in Tamil Nadu, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa.

Rajaa told Bloomberg TV in an interview that Ford has not yet decided what models it will manufacture in the country.

The Indian government earlier this year lowered import taxes for foreign car manufacturers that committed to invest $500 million in the country, the report said.

Ford said last month that it is planning to expand its existing 12,000 people workforce in Tamil Nadu by 3,000 within the next three years.

Ford did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
