07:49 AM EDT, 07/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Ford Motor ( F ) is reportedly encouraging its managers to drive electric vehicles by changing its internal leasing program offered to current and former managers, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing an internal email Ford sent last week.
The automaker started requiring those who wish to lease a supplemental vehicle to order an electric Mustang Mach-E SUV or F-150 Lightning pickup.
Managers currently driving a supplemental lease vehicle different from the designated EVs were asked to return the vehicle or purchase it by May 15, 2025, according to the email.
A Ford spokesman told Reuters that "the optional program" encourages employees to drive EVs so they can experience the technology firsthand and share their experiences, which can help "to increase familiarity with new technology."
The report said vehicles leased by managers are counted as sales for Ford.
Ford did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
