04:22 PM EDT, 03/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- At a diplomatic summit in France, G7 foreign ministers expressed interest in joining a multinational mission to patrol the Strait of Hormuz after a potential ceasefire with Iran, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
While some European leaders initially distanced themselves from the Iran war, they are now getting involved, driven by Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and Moscow and Tehran strengthening their security cooperation, the WSJ said.
"Putin is cynically hoping that the escalation in the Middle East will divert our attention from his crimes in Ukraine," the report added, citing German foreign minister Johann Wadephul at the G7 meeting.
