02:44 PM EDT, 05/19/2025 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors ( GM ) is aiming to reverse the electric vehicle mandate in California, which would ban the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.
The automaker has asked employees to lobby senators to repeal the California measure, the Journal reported, citing an email sent by the company to staff.
General Motors ( GM ) initially supported the California target but has changed course as the electric vehicle market has seen demand decline in the past years, according to the report.
A General Motors ( GM ) spokesperson told the Journal that the email was sent to employees in Michigan and affected states. The spokesperson said that the company continues to invest heavily in electric vehicles.
General Motors ( GM ) did not immediate reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
