11:13 AM EDT, 10/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors ( GM ) will lay off about 1,200 workers at its Detroit-area all-electric vehicle plant as it scales back to one shift, The Detroit News reported Wednesday.

The automaker will also cut 550 jobs at its Ultium Cells battery plant in Ohio and temporarily lay off another 850 workers, according to the report.

GM didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
