Apr 10, 2025 7:41 AM

10:24 AM EDT, 04/10/2025 (MT Newswires) -- General Motors ( GM ) is temporarily laying off about 200 employees at its Factory Zero plant in Detroit, Reuters reported Thursday, citing a company statement.

The company reportedly said the layoffs are necessary to adjust production based on current market conditions. The job cuts are not connected to the recent auto tariffs, the report said, citing a company source.

Factory Zero builds electric vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Hummer EV models, and Escalade IQ, according to the report.

General Motors ( GM ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.

Shares of the company were down about 4.5% in recent trading.
