04:38 AM EDT, 03/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Glencore Chief Executive Gary Nagle is hoping that Rio Tinto (RIO) will consider returning to the table for a fresh attempt for a deal between the mining giants amid the recent increase in coal prices, Reuters reported Friday, citing three investors.
The investors met with leaders of both companies in Australia this week, according to the report.
Rio Tinto and Glencore were locked in deal talks earlier this year that ended with no transaction due to disagreements on valuation, Reuters reported.
Rio Tinto cannot restart deal discussions with Glencore for six months under UK rules, according to the news agency.
The companies didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
Rio Tinto shares were down 1.1% in premarket activity.
