Market Chatter: Google Chooses MediaTek for Less-Expensive AI Chips

11:19 AM EDT, 03/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) intends to work with Taiwan-based MediaTek to help design and produce the next version of its artificial intelligence chips, known as Tensor Processing Units, The Information reported Monday, citing two people involved in the project.

Google ( GOOG ) has not ended its collaboration with Broadcom (AVGO), but if the plan moves forward, Broadcom may have to share the TPU business with MediaTek, according to the report.

Alphabet and Broadcom did not immediately reply to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
