Market Chatter: Google Could Be Forced to Sell Chrome Under DOJ Crackdown on Search Monopoly, Bloomberg Reports
Nov 19, 2024 8:36 PM

05:49 AM EST, 11/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) may be forced to sell off its Chrome browser if Justice Department officials successfully convince a judge to crack down on the tech giant's alleged antitrust issues, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing unnamed people familiar with the plans.

The DOJ is also planning to ask federal judge Amit Mehta to require measures surrounding artificial intelligence and Google's ( GOOG ) Android smartphone operating system, the report said.

Additionally, officials are looking to recommend on Wednesday that Mehta impose data licensing requirements, Bloomberg reported.

Mehta has ruled in August that Google ( GOOG ) illegally monopolized the search market, according to the report.

Google ( GOOG ) and the DOJ did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
