10:11 AM EST, 11/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Subsea internet cable projects that are supposed to go through the Red Sea, such as those of Meta Platforms ( META ) and Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ), have been delayed due to security risks in the region, Bloomberg reported Monday.
Bloomberg said a spokesperson for Meta Platforms ( META ) confirmed that the southern Red Sea segment of the company's planned 45,000-kilometer 2Africa subsea cable system has not been built yet due to "operational factors, regulatory concerns, and geopolitical risk."
A spokesperson for Google ( GOOG ) also told the news outlet that the company-backed Blue-Raman cable system has been delayed as well, but did not disclose further details.
Google ( GOOG ) and Meta Platforms ( META ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
