06:48 AM EDT, 10/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) wants to sell or spin off its Verily life sciences unit, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing court testimony by Google ( GOOG ) senior executive Heather Adkins.

The Google ( GOOG ) vice president of security engineering described plans to sell Verily while testifying as a defense witness in the US Justice Department's prosecution of the Alphabet subsidiary for allegedly monopolizing online advertising technology.

Adkins said Verily has been trying to move off Google's ( GOOG ) infrastructure and onto Google's ( GOOG ) cloud platform since 2023.

"We are in the process of helping them become an independent company," she was quoted as saying. "The idea is to have it no longer be an Alphabet entity."

Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
