07:38 AM EDT, 07/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Google's (GOOGL) cloud unit is looking into its options to fight against Microsoft's ( MSFT ) licensing practices, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing Google Cloud head Amit Zavery.
The remarks came after Microsoft ( MSFT ) reached a deal to settle an antitrust complaint filed by the European cloud trade group CISPE about its cloud computing licensing practices.
Under the deal, CISPE members will receive a lump sum amount to cover litigation and software licensing campaign costs incurred in the last three years, CISPE said Wednesday. Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Amazon Web Services unit, Google Cloud and Alibaba's (BABA) Alibaba Cloud unit are not part of the agreement.
"Many regulatory bodies have opened inquiries into Microsoft's ( MSFT ) licensing practices, and we are hopeful there will be remedies to protect the cloud market from Microsoft's ( MSFT ) anti-competitive behavior," Zavery was quoted by Reuters as saying.
In a post on social media platform X, Zavery accused Microsoft ( MSFT ) of "paying off complainants rather than address their complaints."
"CISPE admits to a payoff," Zavery wrote and accused CISPE members of being "under gag order" and not being able to "file complaints anymore."
Microsoft ( MSFT ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
