02:23 PM EDT, 04/08/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US government should end its data sharing agreement with the UK after its court ordered Apple ( AAPL ) to allow government access to encrypted cloud storage systems, two lawmakers said in a letter to the Trump administration, Reuters reported Tuesday.
Representatives Andy Biggs, R-Arizona, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, have asked US Attorney General Pam Bondi to end the US-UK agreement under the CLOUD Act after Britain asked Apple ( AAPL ) to create a so-called backdoor to its systems.
The agreement allows the UK to ask US companies to share data with the government during criminal investigations as long as they are not US citizens.
The order exposes all Apple ( AAPL ) customers, including US citizens, to unwanted surveillance, the Republican lawmakers reportedly said in the letter. Apple ( AAPL ) has filed an appeal against the UK order.
Apple ( AAPL ) and the White House did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comments/
