12:52 PM EDT, 09/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Hackers tied to the Chinese government have snuck into a few US internet-service providers in recent months with the goal of obtaining sensitive information, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The hacking campaign, called Salt Typhoon, is the most recent of a series of cyberattacks that US investigators have linked to China in recent years, according to the report. In breaches of this type, hackers aim to establish a bridgehead within the infrastructure of cable and broadband companies from which they can access data stored by telecommunications companies or launch a cyberattack, The WSJ said.
