Market Chatter: HSBC Considers Selling Australian Consumer Banking Unit
Jan 21, 2025 5:09 AM

07:40 AM EST, 01/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- HSBC Holdings ( HSBC ) is evaluating options for its consumer banking business in Australia, with a possible sale under consideration, Bloomberg News reported Monday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The bank reportedly plans to retain its commercial banking operations in the country to support corporate clients internationally.

Discussions are in the early phases, and no decision has been made, the report said.

The potential sale aligns with the company's recent divestments in Canada, France, and the US, the report added.

HSBC Holdings ( HSBC ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

US markets were closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.
