07:54 AM EDT, 09/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- HSBC Holdings ( HSBC ) is discussing a potential sale of its South African corporate banking unit to FirstRand's Rand Merchant Bank, Bloomberg News reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

No deal has been finalized yet and there is no guarantee a transaction will be completed, the report said.

HSBC ( HSBC ) is also planning to sell its equities business in South Africa, Bloomberg said.

HSBC ( HSBC ), FirstRand, and Rand Merchant Bank did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
