Market Chatter: Intel Seeks to Overturn R2's European Patent in Milan

02:37 PM EDT, 03/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Intel ( INTC ) has filed a lawsuit in Milan, seeking to invalidate a European patent granted to R2 Semiconductor that could block Intel's ( INTC ) exports to Germany, MarketWatch reported Thursday.

Intel ( INTC ) called R2 a "patent troll" that is seeking an out-of-court settlement by using the patent infringement case in Europe, according to the report, citing a company spokesperson.

A German court recently awarded an injunction against the sale of some Intel ( INTC ) chips in Germany. The company has expressed intention to appeal the decision.

Intel ( INTC ) did not immediately reply to a request for comment by MT Newswires. R2 could not be reached. Intel ( INTC ) shares were nearly 1% higher in recent trading.
