11:07 AM EDT, 09/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Interactive Brokers ( IBKR ) plans to launch a market next week for users to bet on the result of the US presidential election, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing Thomas Peterffy, the company's founder and chairman

The brokerage plans to follow up by offering similar bets on swing-state US Senate races, the report said.

Peterffy's announcement follows a ruling by US District Judge Jia Cobb of the District of Columbia denying an attempt by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to block trading platform Kalshi from starting a betting market on congressional-control markets.

Shares of Interactive Brokers ( IBKR ) rose 3.6% in recent trading Friday.
