Market Chatter: Johnson & Johnson Faces $966 Million Verdict in Talc-Related Cancer Lawsuit
Oct 7, 2025 10:11 AM

12:57 PM EDT, 10/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ ) was ordered by a Los Angeles jury to pay $966 million to the family of Mae Moore, who died of mesothelioma in 2021, after being found liable for its talc-based baby powder products, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a court filing.

The verdict awarded $16 million in compensatory damages and $950 million in punitive damages, with Moore's family claiming the products contained asbestos fibers that caused her cancer, according to the report.

J&J has said its talc products are safe and asbestos-free. It replaced US talc-based baby powder with a cornstarch formula in 2020, Reuters reported.

Johnson & Johnson ( JNJ ) didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
