07:59 AM EDT, 04/01/2025 (MT Newswires) -- KKR (KKR), which is the majority shareholder in Italian fibre optic grid operator FiberCop, is considering a partnership with Italy's Open Fiber, as part of the Italian government's broader plan to create a single broadband network, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing KKR Partner Alberto Signori.
"There is talk about it, there is a willingness on the part of the Italian government to see if there are the conditions to do it, and make savings on investments," Signori said at a conference in Milan, Reuters reported.
Under the terms of Telecom Italia's sale of FiberCop to a group led by KKR, any combination between FiberCop and Open Fiber before the end of next year would result in an additional payment of 2.5 billion euros ($2.70 billion) for Telecom Italia, the report said.
