04:05 PM EDT, 08/26/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Kroger ( KR ) is laying off about 1,000 corporate employees as the retail grocery chain attempts to cut costs and streamline business after its failed deal with Albertsons Companies (ACI), Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
The company will be making structural changes to its teams in the US, its interim chief executive Ron Sargent said in a memo, according to the report.
Kroger ( KR ) will be reinvesting savings from the layoffs into other areas, including lowering prices, opening new stores and creating store-level jobs, it added.
The company is readjusting its business priorities while halting projects that are not boosting the core retail business, the report said.
Kroger ( KR ) did not respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
