Market Chatter: Lawmakers to Consider Bill Punishing Social Media Platforms for Deep Fake Porn Images Targeting Individuals
Jun 18, 2024 6:35 AM

09:11 AM EDT, 06/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US lawmakers are considering a bill that, if enacted into law, would punish social media platforms for distributing AI-generated deep fake pornographic images of unknowing individuals, CNBC reported Tuesday, citing the bill's main sponsor, Senator Ted Cruz.

The proposed Take It Down Act would require social media platforms such as Meta Platforms' ( META ) Facebook and Instagram or Snapchat (SNAP) to remove such images within 48 hours of receiving a valid request from a victim.

CNBC said the Texas Republican's proposed legislation has bipartisan support.

Cruz, Meta, and Snapchat did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
