06:55 AM EDT, 08/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms' ( META ) Facebook and Instagram, Google's ( GOOG ) YouTube ( GOOG ), Telegram, and other social media platforms have been called on by South Korean authorities to help them delete and block sexually explicit deepfake content, Reuters reported Wednesday citing the Korea Communications Standards Commission.
The request comes after several local media outlets reported that sexually explicit deepfake images and videos of South Korean women were often found in Telegram chatrooms, Reuters said.
The Commission said it will set up a 24-hour hotline for victims and double the number of regulatory personnel monitoring digital sex crimes, in addition to setting up a consultative body to boost communication with social media firms about deleting and blocking sexual deepfake content, according to the report.
Moreover, the Korean National Police Agency also said it will make a seven-month push to crack down on online sex crimes, Reuters reported.
Meta and Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
