Market Chatter: Meta Platforms Can Face Legal Action in Kenya Over Content Moderator Dismissals, Appeal Court Ruling Says
Sep 20, 2024 11:21 AM

02:12 PM EDT, 09/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) can be sued in Kenya over the dismissal of content moderators by a contractor, Reuters reported Friday, citing a Kenyan appeal court ruling.

The court upheld an earlier decision by a Kenyan labor court that said the company could face lawsuits for the dismissals, the report said.

Content moderators filed a lawsuit against Meta and two contractors, claiming they were fired by Sama for attempting to unionize and were blacklisted from reapplying at Majorel after Meta's Facebook switched contractors, according to the report.

Discussions for a settlement between Meta and the moderators collapsed last October, the report added.

Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
