07:47 AM EDT, 08/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) faces a criminal complaint in Germany from digital rights group HateAid over the sale of its AI powered smart glasses, particularly the Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer, Reuters reported Wednesday.

HateAid alleges the glasses violate German privacy laws against covert recording and also named EssilorLuxottica units and retailers including Fielmann, Apollo-Optik, Mister Spex and MediaMarkt, the report said.

Germany's Federal Network Agency is closely monitoring the smart-glasses market but is not currently formally investigating any violations, Reuters reported, citing a spokesperson for the country's digital communications regulator.

Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
