Market Chatter: Meta Platforms Freezes Hiring in AI Division
Aug 21, 2025 4:15 AM

06:45 AM EDT, 08/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) has halted hiring in its artificial intelligence division after recently adding more than 50 researchers and engineers, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The freeze, which started last week, also prohibits current employees from transferring across teams within the division. The report stated that the duration of the freeze has not been internally communicated.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed to the WSJ the hiring freeze, calling it part of "organizational planning" to establish "a solid structure" for the company's new superintelligence efforts and undertaking yearly budgeting and planning exercises.

Meta did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
