07:04 AM EST, 01/15/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms Inc ( META ) warned it may have to remove features from its social media tools in India because of a regulatory order banning WhatsApp messaging service from sharing user data with other platforms, Reuters reported, citing a court filing by the company.
In November, the Competition Commission of India accused Meta of abusing antitrust rules by forcing WhatsApp users to submit to data collection and sharing, fined it $24.5 million, and placed a five-year ban on data sharing, Reuters reported.
Meta is seeking to quash the ruling, arguing in part that it will no longer be able to offer users and businesses personalized ads, Reuters reported, citing Meta's 2,000-page Jan. 3 appeal, which has not been made public.
Meta did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
