Market Chatter: Meta Platforms Passes Digital Tax Costs to Advertisers
Mar 11, 2026 7:09 AM

08:34 AM EDT, 03/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) is requiring advertisers to pay for digital service levies imposed by various countries on technology companies, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing an email sent to advertisers.

The social media network notified clients about upcoming location charges taking effect July 1 for promotional materials displayed in specific regions, the report said.

Meta said in its email that it has previously covered these expenses internally but will now add a surcharge matching the local tax rate for both video and image promotions, Bloomberg reported.

The updated billing structure affects campaigns running in France, Italy, and Spain with a 3% rate, while Austria and Turkey maintain a 5% levy, and the UK requires 2%.

Meta Platforms ( META ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
