Market Chatter: Meta Platforms Sued Over Alleged Security Breaches at WhatsApp
Sep 9, 2025 4:56 AM

07:32 AM EDT, 09/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) is facing a lawsuit by a former employee who alleges that he raised concerns about the security of the company's WhatsApp messaging platform but was instead ignored, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

Attaullah Baig, who described himself as the former head of security at WhatsApp, said he discovered cybersecurity failures that posed risks to user data at the company, Bloomberg reported.

Baig said he found that about 1,500 WhatsApp engineers had easy access to user data and could steal it without detection, Bloomberg reported, citing a court document.

Meta did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment. WhatsApp spokesman Carl Woog told Bloomberg that "this is a familiar playbook in which a former employee is dismissed for poor performance and then goes public with distorted claims that misrepresent the ongoing hard work of our team."
