Market Chatter: Meta Platforms Suspends Use of Generative AI in Brazil Amid Concerns Over Personal Data
Jul 18, 2024 4:42 AM

07:24 AM EDT, 07/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) has decided to suspend its use of generative artificial intelligence tools in Brazil after the government ordered the Facebook owner to stop training its AI models on Brazilian personal data, Reuters reported Wednesday.

Brazil's National Data Protection Authority suspended Meta's new privacy policy for the use of personal data to train generative AI earlier this month, saying the company should revise the policy to exclude personal data from the training process.

According to Reuters, Meta said in a statement that it is suspending the tools while it is in talks with the regulator to address its concerns.

Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
