12:59 PM EST, 01/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms ( META ) is set to pause the new rules about banning rival AI chatbots in WhatsApp after an order from Italy's antitrust authority, Reuters reported Monday, citing a notice sent to AI providers and developers.

To comply with the order, the company will exempt WhatsApp numbers with Italy's country code from the updated terms of service of WhatsApp, the report said.

Meta didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
