08:01 AM EST, 12/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Meta-owned (META) Instagram and Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) YouTube ( GOOG ) have emerged as alternatives for American TikTok content creators, who have urged followers to subscribe to their Instagram and YouTube ( GOOG ) channels after a federal appeals court ruled that the Chinese-owned social media app could be banned if not sold to a US-based company by Jan. 19, Reuters reported over the weekend.
A Supreme Court appeal is still possible, and MT Newswires previously reported that a TikTok spokesperson said they are looking forward to the Supreme Court in "protecting Americans' right to free speech."
Content creators are worried that a ban on TikTok would remove years of their work on the app, Reuters said, citing interviews with TikTok influencers.
