10:21 AM EDT, 07/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) is in advanced talks to secure ongoing access to OpenAI's latest models and technology, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

An agreement would likely remove an obstacle to the startup's efforts to become a for-profit business, the report said.

Negotiators have met regularly, and while an agreement may emerge in weeks, some hurdles have emerged, the report said.

The companies have examined new terms to include OpenAI's goal of building artificial general intelligence, a milestone that, under the original contract, may trigger a loss of some technology rights for Microsoft ( MSFT ), the report said.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) and OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comments from MT Newswires.
