01:17 PM EDT, 07/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft's ( MSFT ) latest round of job cuts led to the cancellation of "Everwild," an original video game in development at Rare, Video Games Chronicle reported Wednesday, citing people with knowledge of the project.
Employees of Rare, which was acquired by Microsoft ( MSFT ) in 2002 and is part of Xbox Game Studios, may face job cuts as part of broader restructuring of the division, the report said.
Separately, a new multiplayer online role-playing game project codenamed "Blackbird" has also been axed amid the layoffs, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported Wednesday in a Bluesky post. The game's developer, ZeniMax Online Studios, was acquired by Microsoft ( MSFT ) in 2021.
Microsoft ( MSFT ) didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
