07:44 AM EST, 12/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) purchased about 485,000 of Nvidia's ( NVDA ) Hopper artificial intelligence chips this year, exceeding Meta's (META) 224,000 chips, Amazon's ( AMZN ) 196,000, and 169,000 by Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ), Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing estimates from technology consultancy Omdia.
Chinese companies ByteDance and Tencent also ordered about 230,000 Nvidia ( NVDA ) chips each, the report said.
The Omdia report estimates that tech firms globally will spend about $229 billion on servers in 2024, with 43% of this going to Nvidia GPUs, according to Financial Times. Microsoft ( MSFT ) reportedly leads capital expenditure in the sector with $31 billion, followed by Amazon ( AMZN ) at $26 billion.
Microsoft ( MSFT ), Meta, Amazon ( AMZN ), and Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
