06:06 AM EDT, 03/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI plans to increase staff to 8,000 by end of this year from roughly 4,500 currently in a bid to close gap with rival Anthropic, the Financial Times reported Saturday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The planned new hires at OpenAI will mainly work across product development, engineering, research and sales, according to the report.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) has invested billions into the ChatGPT maker.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) and OpenAI didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
