07:25 AM EDT, 09/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is planning to construct a new, one-gigawatt data center in India, Bloomberg News reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The parent of generative artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT is searching for local Indian partners to build the data center, the unnamed sources told the news outlet.

OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman could announce the project when he travels to India this month, Bloomberg reported, citing the people.

The company didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
