Market Chatter: Microsoft-Backed OpenAI Supports California Bill on AI Content Labeling
Aug 29, 2024 8:51 AM

11:13 AM EDT, 08/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) -backed OpenAI supports a California bill requiring technology companies to label artificial intelligence content, Reuters reported Monday, citing a letter the company sent to California State Assembly member Buffy Wicks.

OpenAI believes that transparency and provenance requirements like watermarking of AI-generated content are important, the report said.

"New technology and standards can help people understand the origin of content they find online, and avoid confusion between human-generated and photorealistic AI-generated content," OpenAI Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon reportedly wrote in the letter, according to Reuters.

The bill, called AB 3211, is up for a vote by the full state Senate, the report said.

OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
