Market Chatter: Microsoft's Chinese Contractors Under Scrutiny by US Senator
Jul 18, 2025 4:22 AM

06:46 AM EDT, 07/18/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) has come under scrutiny by a US senator demanding to know more about the Chinese engineers maintaining the Pentagon's cloud servers, Reuters reported Friday.

US Senator Tom Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, was responding to a report by the publication ProPublica said the Microsoft ( MSFT ) used engineers in China overseen by employees with security clearances to maintain Pentagon data.

"The U.S. government recognizes that China's cyber capabilities pose one of the most aggressive and dangerous threats to the United States, as evidenced by infiltration of our critical infrastructure, telecommunications networks, and supply chains," Cotton wrote in a letter, according to Reuters, adding that the US military "must guard against all potential threats within its supply chain."

Microsoft ( MSFT ) and the Pentagon did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
