08:26 AM EDT, 06/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI and genetic testing firm Color Health are developing an AI-powered cancer screening and treatment tool, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing company officials.
Financial terms of the partnership weren't disclosed.
Color Health has adapted Open's GPT-4o AI language model into a tool that helps doctors come up with cancer screening and pretreatment plans, The WSJ quoted Color Health's Chief Executive Othman Laraki as saying.
OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap said that AI "can give clinicians more tools to understand medical records, to understand data, to understand labs and diagnostics," the WSJ reported.
The companies began working on the project last year. Color Health pays OpenAI based on usage, the WSJ reported.
Open AI and Color Health did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
