05:09 AM EDT, 07/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT ) -backed OpenAI was subject to a security breach last year that it did not publicly disclose or report to authorities, The New York Times reported Thursday, citing sources.
In early 2023, a hacker accessed OpenAI's internal messaging systems and stole AI technology design information, the report said, citing two unnamed people familiar with the matter.
While OpenAI executives disclosed the breach to some employees and the board of directors, the executives considered the incident no threat to national security and did not inform law enforcement, the Times reported.
The breach prompted fears among employees that the company was vulnerable to hacking by China or other state actors, the news outlet added.
OpenAI did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
