Market Chatter: Mondelez Set to Be Fined by European Regulators Over Cross-Border Sales Restrictions
Apr 16, 2024 5:54 AM

08:30 AM EDT, 04/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Mondelez ( MDLZ ) will be fined millions of euros by the European Commission as early as May for restricting sales of its products between European Union member states, the Financial Times reported, citing unnamed sources.

The maker of Oreo cookies was first asked by the EU about its alleged blocking of sales between countries in 2021 and an antitrust investigation was opened, the FT reported.

Mondelez ( MDLZ ) set aside 340 million euros ($362 million) against a potential EU fine, the FT reported.

The investigation focused on restrictions on languages used on packaging and whether that could curb sales between member states, the FT reported

Mondelez ( MDLZ ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
