02:12 PM EDT, 10/28/2025 (MT Newswires) -- NextEra Energy ( NEE ) placed a major equipment order, including cooling towers and a power generator, for the restart of its Duane Arnold nuclear power plant in Iowa, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing Chief Executive Officer John Ketchum.
NextEra said Monday it entered into a long-term energy purchase deal with Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) to restart the Iowa facility. Under a 25-year power purchase agreement, Google ( GOOG ) will source energy from the plant to power its cloud and AI infrastructure in the state. The nuclear facility is expected to be fully operational in Q1 2029, according to the company.
NextEra Energy ( NEE ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
Shares of NextEra were down 3% in recent trading.
