07:24 AM EDT, 09/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The National Football League could start renegotiating deals for media and television rights four years ahead of schedule, as soon as 2026, CNBC reported Wednesday, citing an exclusive interview with the league's commissioner, Roger Goodell.
The report said the NFL requires agreement from its current media partners, Disney ( DIS ) , Comcast's ( CMCSA ) NBCUniversal, Paramount Skydance ( PSKY ) , Amazon ( AMZN ) , and Fox Corp ( FOXA ) to begin talks for a new agreement.
In 2021, the league signed an 11-year, $111 billion media rights agreement that includes an opt-out clause for the NFL after the 2029-30 season for all its partners except Disney ( DIS ), which has an additional year of rights, the report said.
"Obviously it's not going to happen this year. But it could happen as early as next year. That could happen," CNBC quoted Goodell as saying in the interview.
Amazon ( AMZN ), Comcast's ( CMCSA ) NBCUniversal, Paramount Skydance ( PSKY ), Disney's ( DIS ) ESPN ( DIS ), and Fox Corp ( FOXA ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
