07:45 AM EDT, 06/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- NIO (NIO) and eight other Chinese automakers won approval from Chinese regulators to begin testing automated driving technology on China's roads, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The automakers can now test automated driving functions in approved cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, but they must still complete safety checks before they can deploy the tools on roads, the Journal cited the ministry as saying.
Tesla's (TSLA) full self-driving technology did not make the list, nor did China's Xpeng ( XPEV ) , the Journal reported.
