07:35 AM EST, 12/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Novo Nordisk's ( NVO ) India-based executives have proposed moving up the launch of the weight-loss drug Wegovy in the country to 2025, instead of 2026 as planned, due to concerns about falling behind Eli Lilly's ( LLY ) Mounjaro, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

Eli Lilly ( LLY ) plans to launch Mounjaro in India around the same time, according to the report.

Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) officials earlier said Wegovy might be launched in India in 2026 as soon as regulatory approvals are obtained and enough supply is assured. The company received regulatory approval in India for injectable semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy, in late 2022, Reuters said.

Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
