07:31 AM EDT, 05/31/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) have in recent weeks experienced delays in license applications for large-scale exports of artificial intelligence accelerators to the Middle East amid a national security review by US officials of AI development in the region, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The review is focused on high-volume sales as countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia plan to import large quantities of the chips used in AI data centers, the report said.
US officials have either delayed or not responded to the applications after the Department of Commerce added in October certain countries in the Middle East to chip export restrictions that initially focused on China, according to the report.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
