06:13 AM EDT, 10/03/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Nvidia's ( NVDA ) delivery of artificial intelligence chips to the UAE is facing delays as the US Commerce Department wants the UAE to finalize investment plans in the US before approving the shipments, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The chips' delivery is part of a deal announced in May, under which the UAE pledged to invest in the US in exchange for up to hundred thousands of Nvidia ( NVDA ) chips a year, according to the report. Sources told the newspaper that extended talks over the investment have delayed the delivery of the chips.
The WSJ said the US Commerce Department has to approve the delivery and give permission to Nvidia ( NVDA ) before shipping the chips to the UAE.
"We support the administration as it executes its AI action plan, including the Middle East agreements, and look forward to providing any assistance they need," a spokesperson for Nvidia ( NVDA ) told MT Newswires.
The US Commerce Department, and the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comments.
