Market Chatter: Nvidia May Sell Downsized Blackwell AI Chip to China Under Trump Proposal
Aug 11, 2025 12:38 PM

03:01 PM EDT, 08/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Nvidia ( NVDA ) may be allowed to sell a scaled-back version of its Blackwell AI chip to China under a proposal floated by President Donald Trump in a briefing with reporters, Bloomberg reported Monday.

Trump said he would consider a deal permitting shipments of the Blackwell processor to China if Nvidia ( NVDA ) reduced the chip's capabilities by 30% to 50%, the report said, adding that Trump's remarks came as he confirmed a separate deal with the company allowing exports of its older H20 AI chip to China in exchange for the US government receiving 15% of revenue from those shipments.

A similar revenue-sharing arrangement has been set for Advanced Micro Devices' ( AMD ) MI308 chip, a person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

Trump suggested he may soon meet with Nvidia's ( NVDA ) Chief Executive Jensen Huang to discuss the potential deal, the report said.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) and AMD didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
