09:07 AM EDT, 07/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Nvidia ( NVDA ) ordered 300,000 H2O chipsets from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ( TSM ) last week to add to its current inventory of 600,000 to 700,000, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing two sources.
Strong Chinese demand has led the US chipmaker to reconsider just relying on its existing stockpile, one of the sources told the news outlet.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) has asked Chinese firms to submit new documentation, including order volume forecasts, in order to purchase H2O chips, according to the report.
The chipmaker needs to obtain export licenses to ship the H2O chips, and the US Department of Commerce has not yet approved the licenses, the report said.
Nvidia ( NVDA ) declined to comment when contacted by MT Newswires, while Taiwan Semiconductor did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
